How it all began

Future First Step began when I noticed how many children start school feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or unsure—and how much pressure this places on families and educators. As both a parent and a qualified primary teacher, I saw a real need for meaningful support that helps young learners begin school with confidence, calmness, and genuine excitement.

Our programs were created to make that first step a positive one. We help children feel prepared, supported, and excited for school—while giving educators, schools, and childcare service providers valuable insight into each child before they begin kindergarten - making the transition smoother for everyone. Together, we turn the first day of school into a moment of confidence and joy, not worry

Our Services

Transition to school

Designed to support schools in preparing children for a smooth transition into formal education. We work closely with school leadership and staff to strengthen community engagement and help local families feel confident and supported during the transition period.

Well-being and social skills

A program focused on developing social and emotional intelligence in young learners. Students are supported to build resilience, emotional regulation, and healthy peer relationships, giving them the confidence and skills to thrive at school and beyond.

Our Mission

Our mission is to empower children with the confidence, readiness, and emotional wellbeing they need to thrive as they begin their school journey. Through play-based learning and evidence-informed programs, we partner with schools, learning centres, and childcare services to support the development of resilient, socially capable, and academically prepared young learners.

  • Yes — we partner with any school or childcare service provider looking to support children’s transition to school or social–emotional wellbeing, regardless of whether they are public or private.

  • We ideally run the program once a week for a minimum of 10 weeks per school term. This structure allows children to build skills gradually and ensures meaningful progress. However, we understand every school operates differently, so we offer flexible scheduling options. We can tailor the program to suit your timetable, staffing needs, and student requirements, ensuring it integrates smoothly into your existing routines.

  • Children gain confidence, familiarity with school routines, social and emotional skills (like empathy, self-regulation, communication), readiness for formal schooling, and improved resilience — helping them thrive academically and socially.

  • Our program is designed for both parents and children to participate. In a typical 10-week block, the first five weeks involve parents and children attending together. During this time, we run joint activities as well as short, separate sessions where parents receive practical guidance and information tailored to supporting their child’s transition to school.

In the remaining five weeks, children engage in school-readiness activities independently while parents take part in their own learning sessions. Both groups receive valuable, targeted support that prepares children for Kindergarten and empowers families to feel confident and informed throughout the transition process.

  • We recommend booking a discovery call so we can listen to your school or centre’s unique needs — then we can outline how our programs can support you and your students.
